The Inspiration, Vision, and Partnerships Behind SustainChain™

Global leader, trusted advisor, sustainable development advocate. As Deputy Secretary-General for the UN, Amina Mohammed’s unrelenting commitment to creating a better future for all has inspired many sustainability leaders around the world.

Amina led the process that created the 17 Sustainable Development Goals in 2015. We celebrate her recent reappointment to a second term as Deputy Secretary-General – a testament to her leadership in keeping the SDGs alive in the years to come.

Before joining the UN, Amina spent her career in a variety of leadership roles in civil society, private sector, public sector, and academia. It was through her incredible leadership with the Millennium Villages Project – the integrated economic development program devised by Professor Jeffrey Sachs that addressed extreme poverty in sub-Saharan Africa – that she met our founder Jacqueline Corbelli.

Having worked in the private sector and spent time together in the trenches of African development, Amina and Jacqueline connected on many of the necessary drivers to creating a more economically and socially just world, especially the central role of business to achieving a sustainable future – and how digital technology can rapidly bring together the players, actions, and solutions needed to transform the future.

At the urging of Jennifer Gross and the Blue Chip Foundation, Amina, Jeff, and others, Jacqueline went to work on bringing her vision to life by creating the US Coalition on Sustainability and SustainChain.
